Getting Search Engine Results

Getting your website to rank high in search engines is a challange. For some it comes easy and for others its a constant struggle. There are entire books written on the subject so this article will definitely only touch on a few basics, but luckily there are a few easy and quick things that will get you started.

1. Add key words to your web pages.

There are some easy to use tools like Overture Keyword Selector Tool and WordTracker which will help you find some good keywords for your site. Once you have them add them to your meta tags. While these are not as valuable as they once were they are still useful.

2.Make sure you use the right tags in your website.

Using the proper header tags in the proper places will help your page get indexed properly. Read about H1, H2, and H3 tags.

3. Make sure you use the ALT image attribute properly.

Search engines can't see your picture but they can read your tags! Be careful not to "spam" the search engines with keywords though or you'll probably end up worse than without using ALT tags.

4. Create a sitemap for you webpage.

Sitemaps make it easy for your page to be indexed and it's useful for humans too!

5. Search for your website in search engines.

If you're already there then great, if not you can submit your webpage to most of them. Some cost money, others are totally free. Getting yourself added in can take some time so don't be frustrated when you're still waiting to get added. Just keeping working at it.

6. Research SEO.

SEO is a big deal. It stands for Search Engine Optimization and it's a very lucrative industry. There are a million people with a million ideas so you had best start doing some research. Hopefully you'll find exactly what your website needed to hit the top of the search engines! Good luck!
